With a background in employment law, this kind of thing impresses me so much! Australia has one of the highest, if not the highest, number of workplace injuries and fatalities per year than any other developed country. Here in Singapore, safety on building sites is so heavily promoted that each building site actually has one of these signs. Furthermore, each worker has a sticker on their hard hat reminding them of safety in the workplace, and there are signs all over building sites reminding them to do certain things at different times of the day.
I love the sign idea. Could you imagine if they did that in Australia! Construction companies in Australia would most likely refuse to put signs up like this in fear of reprisal by courts and of course by their trade unions, but I think this is a great way for companies to be held accountable for workplace injuries and deaths.
There really is no excuse to workplace deaths. Sure, accidents happen but having worked on workplace fatality legal cases, many accidents should have never ever happened if workers were properly supervised, instructed and trained.
Well done Singapore, I say!
We have signs like that in South Africa in the manufacturing type environments. Its a NOSA requirement here.
