In Hong Kong....

Hi all, i am currently in Hong Kong on business, but I have included a picture of the hotel room (as i always find myself doing!). Its a great little Boutique Hotel outside of the central business district but close to my HK office. Initial impression of Hong Kong? Far more Asian than any other city i have been to so far....

Very tired, so i shall also leave you with a picture of the view from my room tonight.

Goodnight from Hong Kong,

Sentosa Island - Butterfly and Insect Park - the Birds

Along with the butterflies, there are also a number of birds on show....

As part of the Butterfly Park, they also have some big parrots on show. It was a little quiet, so the girl who was looking after the birds decided that she would show me a few games she loved to play with her pet birds.

Here, she would point her finger in the shape of a gun, and then she would go "BANG!". Slowly, the bird would start dropping and it eventually ends up on its back with its legs in the air. I nearly fell apart laughing at the sight of it.

She also likes to play "Peek A Boo" with him.... (see below)

In the photo below, she is scratching his belly - which apparently he loves....

She is currently in the process of teach him how to do the puzzle. These birds allegedly have the IQ of a 3 year old... and unfortunately also has the attention span of a similar age... so this puzzle takes a little longer than she hopes for!

Of course, the bird is far better at collecting the rings and placing them where they are meant to go!...

It was amazing how much love she had for these birds.... so much so that she kisses them!!

The chairlift over Sentosa Island

Me acting cool on the chairlift.

Singapore seems to have a thing for massive statues of a cross between a fish and a lion....and then call it the Merlion. Merlions can be found all throughout Sentosa - and Singapore!

Watching the kids get ready for the Luge ride down the hill.

World Harvest Festival - Sarawak Cultural Village Part I

Sarawak Cultural Village's World Harvest Festival (formerly known as Gawai Tourism Night) is held each year around the same time and it is an opportunity for the local village to celebrate the harvest by showing off its cultural talents. It also involves performances from invited international cultural troupes and the highlight of the event (certainly for me) - the staging of a theme play on a legendary Iban warrior entitled "Apai Balang" - more on that later!

This year, the invited cultural troupes spanned across the globe - Sri Lanka, India, and Latvia!

First event of the day for me was the Sarawak Cultural Performance, held in the Dewan Lagenda.

While photographing the cultural dances was quite a challenge (due to lighting and movement), I managed to get som e shots of the action.
